 Voice of Truth - 10/9/10

God is Speaking to us in SO MANY WAYS

October 09, 2010

God is speaking to us in so many ways and through so many people (if only we always had ears to hear). Of course He could be speaking directly into our situation through our pastor's sermons (if you never hear God speaking here, something's wrong). Do you know that God even speaks to us at times through people we see as enemies? II Samuel 16:5-12 is a great example.

Here, King David (who was a man with a heart after God) was being cursed, insulted, and pummeled with rocks by Shimei as he was running for his life from his son. Because his heart was so tender for God and he had ears to hear, he did not respond to Shimei the way one of his men (Abishai) wanted to. He knew that it was the voice of the LORD speaking to him through Shimei's curses, using them to reprove and correct David (verse 12). LORD, give me ears to hear like this on Sunday mornings and indeed everyday.

The following is an except from my prayer journal from September 07, 2010

Early this morning when I got up for my prayer and quiet time before my 6:30 AM prayer call, God's Spirit led me to read Matthew Chapters 2-5 and then gave me a strong prophetic word about chapter 2.  After Pastor Grate started the prayer call and offered the devotional scriptures and prayers, I was astounded at how closely related his message and prayer was to what God had given to me and I shared it with the people who were on the call.  Now I am convinced that today this message was also intended for each of you.  Here is the essence of what God spoke through me this morning:

Pastor Grate talked about Jeremiah 29:10-14 where God promised us that, even though we are suffering now from afflictions (the captivity in Babylon), he has a plan for us to bring us out of that place and back to the place that He has prepared for us.  He has a plan for us, a plan for a good ending and not harm for us.  He says that we will seek Him and call upon His name and He will hear us.  That we will seek Him with all of our hearts and He will let us find Him.  WE WILL HEAR HIM.

Now here is the part that God gave me from Matthew 2 just before the call started.  God spoke to most of the people in Matthew 2 in very clear ways and they heard Him.

- First, to the Maggi's (the wise men) from the east who He spoke to initially with His creation (the star which they followed being led to the baby Jesus - verse 2:2).  God told me that He speaks to us in much the same way today throughout the heavens.

- Second, He spoke to the Maggi's through their dreams.  When King Herod planned to let them lead him to the baby Jesus so that he could kill him, God warned them in a dream (verse 2:12).  God also warned Joseph in a dream to take the baby Jesus to Egypt for safety (verse 2:13) and then told him in another dream when it was safe to return (verse 2:19).

-Third and finally, even though King Herod was dead, Joseph was still afraid (in his spirit) to return to Judea because Herod's son was now king and God confirmed his fear in yet another dream (verse 2:22) telling him to go to Galilee to the town of Nazareth.

All of this happened the way it did because God was actively talking to (in some views shouting at) His people (the 3 Maggi's and Joseph) and they heard Him and responded.

The summary of the prophetic message that God spoke through me this morning is this:  THIS IS THE GENERATION OF THEM THAT SEEK HIM (Psalm 24:6) and THOSE WHO SEEK HIM WILL FIND HIM (Jeremiah 29:13).  GOD IS SPEAKING TODAY, JUST AS HE DID TO THE MAGGI'S AND JOSEPH, THROUGH HIS CREATION, THROUGH DREAMS, AND EVEN THROUGH OUR SITUATIONS AND CIRCUMSTANCES.  LIKE THE MAGGI'S AND JOSEPH, WE HAVE TO BE INCLINED TO HAVE EARS TO HEAR (Jesus said may times that "He who has ears to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches")

I believe (I KNOW) that God today is pouring out a special anointing to His people and is speaking to them in ways like this (through His Spirit in theirs, through dreams, and through visions and signs in nature).  That's how He speaks to me.  I also KNOW that the enemy does not want us to hear or pay attention to what God is telling us and he is doing all that he can to distract us and keep us from focusing on what God is doing and saying.  The way the enemy distracts us is with worldly things (it is the very same predictable schemes that he used from the beginning in the Garden of Eden and with Jesus when he tempted Him after His 40-day fast in the wilderness - Matthew 4).  He used the lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh, and the boastful pride of life to try to distract Jesus from doing God’s will and is trying to do the same to us to pull us into his fallen system.

Make no mistake my brothers and sisters, it is a trick, and deception, because that which he is trying to lure us away with (the world system) is about to be brought to an end and God's kingdom will replace it.  The word of God is filled with so many places where this is referenced and we are advised to not grab onto and place our reliance on this world system.  In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus gives us the absolute best financial advice that any financial adviser has ever given... Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth (in this world system) where moth and rust do corrupt.... but lay up for yourselves treasure in heaven (where it will be yours for eternity).  This is a hard thing for most people to do because it requires us to ignore the things that we see (the natural things of this world system) and to focus on things that we don't see (but things that have been promised to us by God).  2 Corinthians 4:17-18 summarizes this very, very well -- "For our light affliction (our captivity or suffering), which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;  While we look not at the things which are seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal."

I pray that this is a profitable word for you and that through further dialog, study of God's word, and prayer, we can all better understand and know God's perfect plan and calling for us especially in these VERY important days in which we are living.  His plan for you is unique and it is something that no one else on the planet can do except you.  And it is not my desire (or His) for me to continually tell you what He is saying to you... We want you to hear Him directly and even help others hear Him who for whatever reason can't hear right now.

Take care, God bless my brothers and sisters and we will talk again real soon.

Gerald
